Business Watch :
The "Business Watch" program has been designed to help you, the business owner, better protect your property, employees and customers from burglars, thieves and robbers. You will receive important information immediately by fax on any crimes that are occurring near you that could affect your business. Information about suspects, their methods of operation and, most importantly, how to keep your business from becoming a victim will be made available to you. San Dimas Sheriff Station is also available to assist you with prevention techniques on such topics as shoplifting , credit cards, forgery, robbery, burglary, and assault prevention.

To join the San Dimas Business Watch Program or to arrange for a speaker at your business, contact: San Dimas Sheriff Station (909) 450-2763 fax (909) 450-2896.

Neighborhood Watch
Throughout the years, Neighborhood Watch has grown from an "extra eyes and ears" approach to crime prevention to a much more proactive, community-oriented endeavor. Neighborhood Watch groups are now incorporating activities that not only address crime prevention issues, but which also restore pride and unity to a neighborhood. It is not uncommon to see Neighborhood Watch groups participating in neighborhood cleanups and other activities which impact the quality of life for community residents.

The adoption of community policing by local law enforcement agencies has also contributed to the resurgence in Watch groups over the years. Neighborhood Watch fits nicely within the framework of law enforcement/community partnerships, and Neighborhood Watch meetings can be a useful forum to discuss neighborhood problems and practice problem-solving techniques.

To join the San Dimas Neighborhood Watch Program, contact: Chris MacKenzie at the San Dimas Sheriff Station (909)
450-2763 .

Explorers:
Since its inception in 1969, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Law Enforcement Explorer Program has created new inroads of understanding between youth, law enforcement, and the community.
Deputy Explorers are not just "talkers." They receive extensive training and then actively participate in community affairs and non-hazardous law enforcement activities.

Explorer Program: contact phone #: 909 450-2806

What is Law Enforcement Exploring? The Law Enforcement Explorer Program is a Sheriff's Department youth oriented program. It is affiliated with the special interest phase of the Boy Scouts of America. It's primary purpose is to provide, through actual experience, a means by which young men and women may determine if they would like to pursue a career in law enforcement. The program also provides the Sheriff's Department with additional human resources and it opens an important avenue of understanding with an energetic, concerned society of young people.

Training: After acceptance into the Program, initial training for new Deputy Exlorers takes place at one of the Sheriff's Explorer Academies. They are located at 11515 South Colima Road, Whittier, and at The College of the Canyons, 26455 N. Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia. The Explorer Academy consists of approximately 184 hours of instruction during 18 weeks of training on Saturdays.
Subjects such as community relations, criminal law, demeanor, firearms safety, narcotics control, police procedures and weaponless defense must be mastered. The trainees are required to undergo drill and physical training as well as their classroom work.
Satisfactory completion of the Academy earns the Deputy Explorer ten high school unit credits. In some cases, college credit can also be earned by post-graduation Academy involvement.
