The Industry Sheriff's Station Youth Activities League (Y.A.L.) began in 1991, as a nonprofit organization, and is the largest community based program at the station. The concept and goal of the Y.A.L. is to be proactive in dealing with the youth of the community and divert them from gangs and drugs. The program recognizes the importance of early intervention and the need to provide alternative activities to prevent negative behavior. The Y.A.L. provides supervised recreational and educational activities and reaches economically and socially disadvantaged boys and girls from the age of 8 to 18. The Y.A.L. strengthens the relationship between the deputies and volunteers as they work together for the benefit of the youth of the community. The Y.A.L. not only has a positive influence on thousands of children, but has UNITED THE COMMUNITY through the involvement of law enforcement, parents, business, education, government and community service groups.
All programs are absolutely FREE to all participants.

Community Opposition and United Resistance Against Gang Evils was started as a community based anti-gang program. The objective of the camp is to let kids experience nature and gain a new perspective on living by canoeing, rock climbing, hiking and playing games, while integrating talks on gangs and drugs during the camp. Kids are selected for the program by the local school district and Y.A.L. deputies. At camp kids already in gangs or those leaning towards gang involvement are mixed with other kids their own age who are not involved with gangs and shown that it is "OK", to just be a kid. They have the opportunity to interact closely with deputies and school counselors away from their jobs. Everyone gets the opportunity to see each other in a new light. This program is held twice a year for three days, in the San Bernardino Mountains.

No need to look to the gangs for excitement. The Y.A.L. provides an escape from the harsh realities of crime and gangs with the S.H.A.R.K. program. "Sheriff's High Adventure for Responsible Kids" is a unique program introducing young men and women to the undersea world of Scuba Diving. Teenagers complete training classes in Scuba and water safety and are taken to Catalina Island where they actually make an ocean dive. They experience a world they have never seen before. The close one on one with a deputy allows for the participants to become acquainted with the human behind the badge. There are two summer sessions, July and August. Classes are held on Mondays thur Thursdays with the dives on the following week.
