A Message from the Sheriff
Thank you for your expressed interest in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. As you consider a law enforcement career with our Department, you have the opportunity to become a member of one of the finest law enforcement agencies in the world.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is the second largest policing agency in the United States. We operate and maintain the largest correctional system in the nation and are responsible for the care, custody, security, and rehabilitation of all inmates housed within our nine facilities. Our patrol stations and various substations provide quality law enforcement services to the residents of Los Angeles County from Catalina Island to the Antelope Valley and from the wilderness of the Angeles National Forest to the inner cities of Los Angeles.
The Dual Track Career Path allows those interested in a career as sworn personnel the opportunity to select their career path of choice: custody, patrol, or both. After completing initial assignments in Custody and/or Field Operations Divisions, Deputies may then seek positions in a variety of specialized assignments, such as, Special Enforcement Bureau, Arson Explosives Detail, Canine Services, and many more. Deputy Sheriffs may choose from more than 350 job classifications and assignments throughout their career.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department also offers a wide variety of civilian and support positions. All positions offer competitive salaries and benefits. Our civilian support staff is an essential component and significantly strengthens the Department's total operation.
