Sheriff’s Leadership Academy

The Sheriff’s Leadership Academy is a fully accredited school launched in September 2005, helping to fulfill Sheriff Baca’s vision of providing a safe haven for students who want to learn but fear gang violence in their neighborhood schools. It is housed at the Century Sheriff’s Station in Lynwood.

Success at the Academy requires commitment.

High-school-age students must take at least one college course and obtain work.

Instructors representing the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department include, Sgt. John Hunter, Deputy James Andrews, Dr. Michael Gonzales (volunteer instructor), and Lt. Myron Johnson.

As part of the program this past year, The Sheriff’s Leadership Academy implemented a Video Production Class.

The video class learns screenwriting, film production, crew positions, and editing. It is under the guidance of Dr. Gonzales, a full-time professor at Biola University In La Mirada.

This is a Field Operations Region II project overseen by Chief James Lopez.
