DEPUTY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

Day One

Focus: The effectiveness of teams and the importance of variance.

• JOURNAL REVIEW
• THE BUILDING OF EFFECTIVE TEAMS
  Students will be exposed to team building within the leadership paradigm. Collaboration, diversity, selection methodology, implementation, and actions are discussed.

  LECTURE:
  A noted expert or authority will provide information and instruction on effective teams. (Navy Seal handout).

  Students, through team exercises, will develop the skills of proper team selection and action.

  Exercise: Students will participate in effective and ineffective team exercises. Students will learn to devalue competition and enhance quality effort.

END OF SESSION EIGHT / DAY ONE

Day Two

Focus: Issues on the over-dependance on technology are discussed for leadership purposes.

• JOURNAL REVIEW
• TECHNOLOGY AND LEADERSHIP
  Students will be exposed to the history of technology and its eventual impact on organizational values. Students will be asked to anticipate technological trends that may impact leadership development.

  LECTURE:
  Guest lecture on the impact of technology and its impact on human development.

• GROUP OR INDIVIDUAL STUDENT PROJECTS
  Students will understand the importance and the methodology for project selection and presentation.

  LECTURE:
  Students will receive instruction on project identification, selection, and presentation.

  LECTURE:
  Continued lecture and instruction.

  Students identify projects and are given parameters for presentation at the next class.

END OF SESSION EIGHT / DAY TWO

Day Three

Focus: Group projects.

  Students will learn, through practical application, the importance of proper project selection and program effectiveness.
• PROJECT PRESENTATIONS
• EVALUATION OF PROJECTS
