LoyaltyWhen
do You Obey and When Do You Question Your Duty
Loyalty is steadfast and faithful. Steadfast: Always there unwavering Faithful: Belief absent necessity of reason or proof
Loyalty to anything less than one's own principles, subjugates one's principles to the other entity. Loyalty conflicts are never ------------ ------------. Should I support management or employees? This is a myopic view of one who does not understand loyalty.
Look up!! The answer lies within the individual: what do the principles of law enforcement, the nation or my own principles demand? One who understands loyalty recognizes that conflicts must be resolved by higher principles: Personal Principles Constitution Profession
Employee Management
Adhering to personal principles will allow one to be supportive of others and the organization and demand challenge of others or the organization when those personal principles are violated.
PROACTIVE REACTIVE Too many management theories are based on the dangerous concept that a particular stimulus will result in a predictable response. This concept eliminates responsibility and choice.
STIMULUS ------------------------------ RESPONSE "Carrot on a stick" Desired behavior
Reward and punishment, or "carrot on a stick" underlie many of our managerial activities. These are based on the stimulus-response theory and result in weakening others by not recognizing the strength or responsibility and choice.
Given a particular stimulus, people who accept responsibility exercise choice whether or not to respond and how to respond. Effective leaders accept responsibility for everything in their purview. Responsibility creates choices.
STIMULUS CHOICE RESPONSE
Deny responsibility and you eliminate choice and become helpless. "If only the boss would then I could " "I can't I had no choice " |
