About Us
Food Services Unit operates six fully functional kitchens staffed with 175 employees responsible for preparing approximately 80,000 meals per day for detainees, inmates and staff members. All patrol stations, court lockups, and special events (academy graduations, press conferences, luncheons, and community events) are also provided quality cuisine by food service professionals.
The Food Services Unit is currently transitioning the patrol station feeding from a traditional "cook and serve" method to the innovative Cook-Chill process. The Food Services Unit is constantly striving to improve our quality of food and the production methods as well as provide a quality environment for our professional staff.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Food Services Unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is to provide quality meals for inmates and staff in accordance with government regulations for proper food preparation and required daily nutritional needs. The Food Services Unit shall strive to accomplish its mission by maintaining high standards of quality food procurement, planning, preparation, service, storage and sanitation.
Our mission is enhanced through in-service training which addresses guidelines of Safe Food Handling, and work environment safety.
